The work of the project officer post is funded by the Manx Lottery Trust. There is currently funding for 12 months @ 24 hours a week, but it is hoped that if the project is successful, further funding will become available for additional projects. Two separate projects are funded currently.
1. Bunneydys Project
The Bunneydys project seeks to provide comprehensive support and encouragement to parents wishing to raise their children through Manx or even just speak a fewwords and phrases to their children.
The project officer will work with parents to identify resources that would support them, to provide or arrange targeted Manx lessons, strengthen and expand parent/Carer and toddler groups, develop links with other preschool groups, encourage many new families to use Manx in a fun and relaxed way and generally build strongcommunities to support families in their Manx language journeys.
The project officer will help grow interest in Manx by promoting the exciting benefits of bilingualism and use the success of our groups in St Johns, Ramsey and Arbory to significantly grow the numbers of people engaged with Manx. A key role of the officer will be to attract and support volunteers to run groups, offering volunteer opportunities to parents/carers and supporting them to develop new skills.
2. Community Engagement Project
Purpose of Job: To engage with a wide range of people, including second language communities, and to attract a much broader section of the community to support Mooinjer Veggey and learn the Manx language. Core objectives:
- Much greater proportion of the community to be actively engaged with Manx language and culture.
- To significantly broaden the appeal and accessibility of Mooinjer Veggey particularly to minority language groups and cultures in the IOM.
- Mooinjer Veggey to be more sustainable both financially and operationally.
Ideally we are looking for someone to work 24 hours on both roles, but we would be interested in hearing from people who can offer to do either role 12 hours a week. Please state on your application form if this is the case.
