There are lots of different ways to help keep a language alive.

You might speak it every day, teach it, learn it alongside your children, write stories or songs in it, or use your own skills to help it reach people who might not otherwise come across it.

Our Heroes series celebrates the people doing just that.

Some of our heroes will be fluent Manx speakers. Others might only know a few words, or may not speak Manx at all, but they are still finding ways to support, share and celebrate the language.

We wanted to begin with someone who shows exactly what we mean.

Artist and illustrator Ryan Morrison is not a fluent Manx speaker, but through his beautiful artwork for Mooinjer Veggey, the language will be carried into homes, classrooms and little hands across the Island—and hopefully far beyond it too.

That makes Ryan our very first Manx Language Hero.
